The United States (US) dollar strengthened slightly in trading on Tuesday (November 3, 2026), bolstered by labor market data that outperformed forecasts, even as uncertainty surrounding the US midterm elections and diplomatic developments between Washington and Tehran persisted.
The US Dollar Index (DXY) rose 0.1% to 101.81, following a period of volatility driven by fluctuations in global oil prices. Investors are closely monitoring potential shifts in the composition of the US Congress, which could influence the direction of economic policy, market sentiment, and the outlook for investments in artificial intelligence (AI).
The dollar’s gains became more pronounced following the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) report, which showed that the number of job openings in the US increased by 333,000 to 7.523 million—well above economists' projections of 7.1 million. This data suggests that labor demand remains relatively robust, potentially reinforcing expectations that the Federal Reserve will maintain a tight interest-rate policy. Market participants are now awaiting further labor market reports, including Friday’s Nonfarm Payrolls (NFP), for a clearer picture of the US economic landscape.
Meanwhile, the dollar also strengthened against the Chinese yuan and the Australian dollar, following policy decisions from their respective central banks. The yuan weakened after China’s central bank raised the foreign exchange reserve requirement ratio for financial institutions—a move aimed at curbing the appreciation of the domestic currency. The US dollar climbed approximately 0.4% against the yuan to 6.6765, while the Australian dollar fell 0.4% to US$0.6971, despite the Reserve Bank of Australia’s decision to raise interest rates by 25 basis points to 4.85%. These movements reflect a varied market response to monetary policy, alongside growing investor caution ahead of the release of key economic data.
