Solid Gold Berjangka – The Australian dollar strengthened against the US dollar in trading on Wednesday (Nov 4), following sharp pressure over the previous two sessions. The AUD/USD pair rose to around 0.6977 as investor interest in riskier assets improved and US stock futures recovered during early European trading.
S&P 500 futures pared most of their earlier losses, trading approximately 0.6% lower near 7,530. This recovery signals that "risk-off" pressure is beginning to ease, providing support for the Australian dollar—a currency known to be sensitive to shifts in global market sentiment.
These market movements follow projections that the Democratic Party has secured control of both chambers of the US Congress in the midterm elections. The outcome had initially pressured stocks and the dollar, as investors weighed the potential for policy gridlock, regulatory shifts, and the subsequent impact on economic growth.
The US dollar also began to recover some ground after a sharp decline earlier in the session. The US Dollar Index (DXY) was trading about 0.4% lower near 101.48, having previously touched a low of 101.25. The simultaneous recovery in stock futures and the dollar suggests that the market is adjusting its positions as the election results become clearer.
Meanwhile, in Australia, the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) recently raised interest rates by 25 basis points to 4.85%, citing persistent inflationary pressures. While this policy provides fundamental support for the Australian dollar, the future trajectory of the AUD/USD pair will largely depend on shifts in global risk appetite and the performance of the US dollar.
